Tackling mental health on Ingram’s Skin Sessions

LIBERATION ON INGRAM’S SKIN SESSIONS

Comedian Nina Hastie and Author Sizakele Phohleli tackle mental health stigma, and expressions of liberation on Ingram’s Skin Sessions LIVE on SABC 3’s Expresso Morning Show.

Ingram’s Skin Sessions is a thought-provoking campaign that explores controversial issues beyond the skin we are in, and next week involves looking at how loving our skin can be an enormous act of kindness. With this comes many acts of liberation,  from the clothes we wear to the tattoos we choose to express ourselves.

Nina and Sizakele (popularly known as Her Mentality on Social Media) look at what radical self-acceptance means, in the face of traditional beauty ideals.

The campaign, which initially launched in 2020, will embark on a brave journey of unpacking the daily skin and body confidence struggles faced by many, through real purpose-driven conversations that will see brand new thought-provoking topics discussed weekly.

In June, Ingram’s Skin Sessions kicked off the 2021 campaign with body positivity activists Oyama Botha and Boitumelo Rametsi discussing challenging  Beauty Standards by using social media. During the conversation, Boitumelo said  that her Vitiligo experience was “so scary it brought me to a sense of believing that I would never want to be a mother.” Her brave revelation in dealing with her struggles forms part of what makes Ingram’s Skin Sessions a compelling platform for authentic conversations, where real issues are discussed.

Tune into Expresso Morning Show on Tuesday and Friday weekdays at 06h00 – 09h00 to join the brave conversation.

Ingram’s Skin Sessions will conclude on Friday, 20 August 2021.
